As big a bait as you can get on the hook as long as it presented well.
But in the conditions as they are you may be wasting your time.

small baits = more fish of all sizes.
big baits = less fish but of a higher average size due to less small fish being hooked.
i know most on here dissagree with me on this but this is what i\'ve found from my own experience.
small baits certainly don\'t seem to have put me at any dissadvantage over the years.
i\'ve had some very good sessions in the past for decent cod using single silvers on a 4/0 viking, the baits look stupidly small but do the biz.
time to get shot down in flames now..........

If you\'re fishing two rods digger, lump on, on one and try some smaller baits on the other.

im 99% certain it was micky who suggested dropping the hook size and using smaller baits ,since ive done this ive had 11 fish in 2 outings non below size and a couple of decent ones as well, when i was using the 4/0 with bigger baits the results ,well lets say im glad i changed
                          cheers Bri

Micky\'s right......BUT......the bigger fish have to be there in the 1st place.
I\'ve always used big baits....this time of year, it\'s lug, mussel & squid.
Was out last week with Jim and RobAdair.....again using lovelly big baits......not a flicker on the rod tip......stuck a single bit of macky strip on a 3/0......fish straight away. Mind you, I\'d been using the big baits all night.......only ended up catching the one fish and that was on the macky strip......lol
