Bait Additives / Artificial Bait?

Never had much luck with them myself, although some people swear by them?

So far I\'ve tried pilchard oil, ultrabite, fish n strips and peel a crab sticks side by side with natural bait and they\'ve been dissappointing to say the least.

Just noticed this one and was wondering if anybody has used it? It\'s advertised on the Harris Angling website and the advert is as follows:

We love the sheer stickability of this highly concentrated, ultra pongy attractant. Applied to natural bait , lures even traces and the first few feet of line, the fishy attractant lasts from 30 minutes to several hours. Not for those of a sensitive nature!
Both sizes come in Herring, Sardine Glitter, Smelt (famous cucumbery fishy scent drives pike demented)and Special Sal****er Mix (specially formulated to attract sea species - combines shrimp, aniseed and some secret ingredients) £5.50 for a 28g tub and £8.95 for a 112g tub!!

never heard of it , like you say most are no good , how ever i have caught with fish n strips when others have caught nowt, has to be fishn strips on its own not mixed with rag or lug etc.... if you do try it let us know your verdict..

Tried the sea bait crab sticks the other day. Had a few bites but no fish, not too impressed.

natural baits every time for me.
the one and only additive i\'ve ever used that has significantly increased my catch is wd40 on macky strip when fishing for whitings, it really can make a hell of a difference on some days,
as to why wd40 works is not certain but its my view that the scent of the bait attaches itself to the wd40, the wd40 disperces in the water well spreading the scent over a greater distance. probably bollix but its just a theory !

Tried Ultrabite when it came out......blurb sounded good.....the fish didn\'t believe it, though......lol

natural baits will always outfish man made baits but the man made are handy to keep in your tackle box just for that something extra or for when you run out of the fresh bait in a match. I have caught fish on most man made baits i have tried,except one that did not even stay on the hook even if you tied it on, It was a rubber crab with crab smell but it just fell to bits when you tried it . Did anybody else try this bait it was out in the 80s and you got 4 rubber crab in a pkt. they also did rubber rag and lug

uesed fish n strips on the hooks of my predator rippin rig. Had more fish hooked in the mouth than ever before (usually they get foul hooked on the ripper when they attack it). Also have tried the lug potion and rag potion from sea baits both seem to work as an attractant - cought more on the squid painted with them than on plain squid.
Also have the fabled \"Fish Distractor\" ask the crew on the boys how they got on with me using it. LOL

Just tried the peeler crab sticks for the first time today,,sort of hoping for a miracle bait...I should of known better...absolutely nothing..!!
But as soon as I put a bit of mussel and rag on the hook... Bitesville...
granted it was just small whiting, but I learnt my lesson, fresh is best.

All right I\'v done some daft things in my life & quite a few of them whilst fishing,but how the hell did someone work out WD40????a few of them include dipping lug in cold tea/ coffee, Ok I was desperate, also the usual lucky tab end, pi$$ing on the bait, but WD40 how ???

I use WD40 a fair bit, the way I use is to fill a squid with mussel or crab and seal it with elastic, puncture the squid a few times with my filleting knife and then squirt the WD40 into the squid using the straw that comes with the can, then give the outside of the squid a good spraying. Carnt say if it works any better than if the bait had\'nt been sprayed but I have caught fish with it.
It has caught fish when nothing else would....
