Starting to make my own rigs and need some advice.
Starting to make my own rigs and need some advice.
Right, I going to start to make my own rigs as it seems the best option as the rigs you buy from the shops are limited and you can customize your own! So, I could really do with some advice on what rigs work best round the North east coast and what size/weight lines to use and the like. Does anyone have any methods that work well for them?
pulley rigs is what i most use, depends what ground u fish.
Well for beach I have seen the main body made from 60lb and the snoods from 20-30lb would this be about right, Ive tried looking on the net and backs of bought rig cards but can't seem to find 60lb mono anywere, do I use leader for this..This probs sounds daft to you lol.
If your using 6oz weights then 60lb mono is fine, I'm surprized if tackle shops don't sell it, I buy mine from there but if you cant find it here. try standard 60lb mono 60LB Seastrike or try somthing like memor-ex either of these work well. remember to use the same weight shock as your rig body.. no point with 80lb shock to 50lb rig body... defeats the purpose somewhat.
also heres some decent knots I can't find the knot I mostly use right now on the sites, but I'll gladly illustrate it if you need any advice.
Species: Cod, Bass, Coalie, Flounder, Dab, Rockling, Mackerel, Plaice, Pollock, Ballen Wrasse, L/S Scorpion, Common Blenny, Weaver (unfortunately), Whiting, Common Eel, Trout, Pike... think that's it

That's great advice mate, thanks
Aye the shop probs does but I haven't looked yet lol.
i normally just use a pully pennel rig for most my fishing quick and easy to make, sometimes use a fixed paternoster i think its called if u have never made a rig before u could by a rig from a shop and copy it. i use 70lb ultima power flex for the rig body u can buy this in 4oz spools think its about 7 or 8 quid a spool but lasts a long time or sakuma shockleader which is around the same price but is only a 100 meter spool where as powerflex is about 200-250 meters sakuma is top stuff though, for the hook length i use amnesia 30 or 40lb will be using 30lb from now on very good memory free line doesnt kink up like normal mono does give it a quick stretch and its straight again.

That's crackin mate, cheers Do you have any advice in which crimps n beads to use?
i try to use the smallest beads i can find, im using some sakuma beads now i think they are there little oval shaped beads in see through colour and black, id use bigger beads to put on a hooklength though, the 1s i have now are just to use for to keep the swivels in place on rigs, not sure about crimps il have to work that out for myself iv had the ones im using now for years starting to run low on them now.
