  • I'm looking to buy a new for for rougher ground! Any advice.

I'm starting to upgrade my gear as Ive been fishing since last November and I THINK IT'S TIME TO GET a MORE SUBSTANTIAL ROD!!! And away from the cheep Fladden powerstick (MY FIRST ROD) I am using for a rougher sea. I also have a Leeda Assassin which I use for flat conditions and is great but when it comes to rough seas it's no good, the Fladden Powerstick Isn't the best! I need something better...Any Ideas? I'm also using a Penn 525 reel.

There's loads of good heavy ground rods out there Kenny. Personally i use a wr300 which does rough, mixed or whatever ground. Great rod for chucking and in my opinion bite detection.

This may sound daft but what make is the WR300?

It depends on your budget mate, but without knowing it I would suggest an SK4 5-7 oz (bit biased but the only rough ground rod i own so personal opinion) which is what i use for the rough stuff and it is strong enough to pull the plug out and has good bite detection too and also cast pretty nicely to and doesnt feel heavy or like a scaffolding pole. Also IMHO i wouldn't use a 525 on the ruff stuff just for the fact that you cant get much thick line (30lb + on them), i would go for something like a sl30sh or penn 535

What about the Orion anyone? Wor kid uses one and he's always giving it stick pulling out of snags.
Think it's cheaper new than the Apollo.
