Sloshs are great reels for a first multi. you can add or take away brake blocks on them to control how fast the reel lets out line, start with two red brake blocks and you wont get any overruns. Once you get the hang of it try just the one red brake block which will improve your casting distance if needed. There very easy to clean and service yourself. you can pick up a second hand one for around 35pound, condition depending.

dont think id get a slosh until you know what youre doing with multilpliers. I was advised the same when i started and suffered many a stressful session due to overruns etc especially into a headwind. If you do get one get someone to set it up for you.

Id personally go for a 525 mag as you can adjust the brakes without messing on with blocks etc.

i learned on a mitchell 502 , then penn 535 , now using a 525 mag....in terms of adjusting your breaks etc 525 is good....true but to be fair half load any multiplier prev without a level wind . do a sinkey drop .adjust tils it stops overunning then try casting and winding back in getting used to levelling the line etc . if u really like that then get owt ya fancy .....ppl can recommend all they want which is good advice but only u will know what u fancy in terms of looks price retrieve speed etc...my two pences

Hi I am new to this forum. So hope this is ok.
You don't really say what type of ground your fishing. But I have used the SL20SH and it is a very good reel, very little to go wrong and easy to control, and bomb proof.Casts quite well too. Mainly used over rough ground.
It is also a smaller size reel than the SL30SH preparing you for a faster multiplier later. The only advice I would give initially is whatever reel you choose, not to fill the spool full of line. 10mm working up to 5mm from the lip of the spool should get you used to casting the reel and build confidence.
Also a grip over your thumb - like bit of tyre inner tube will provide grip and prevent the spool slipping during the cast and also protect your thumb.
              Good luck
              Sean

where are you doing most of your fishing?

i fish piers, beaches but mainly rock marks.

                  i have a few 525 mags
                  a few slosh 20 reels
                  a few slosh 30 reels

just got hold of a new okuma magnetix reel, its got magnet control, you can fill the reel with shed loads of heavy mono for rock marks, the power handle and retrive are cracking and a £60 price taga makes it appealable. i dont know if they do a smaller version or not, the one i have i on par with the slosh 30 but a tad bigger.

All of the reels i have are spot on and cant recomend them enough.

the same model names keep cropping up lol

                  beach and pier

                  mag 525 or slosh 20 with 15 - 20l line

slosh 30 with 30 - 35lb line for rock marks

okuma magnetix with 40lb line for uber heavy rock / weed marks

which model okuma is it Boz because my first multi was an Okuma Magnetix and I thought if was awful and it has now broken anyway - the footplate rivets sheared and I'm not exactly rough with my gear
                    Ooh a new vid!
