Yes you can fish it any time really, as with everything in life our days legal things come into play so the gates must be locked at night or in bad seas and signs up saying no fishing but yes you can fish.
Just keep an eye out when casting for people walking along and boats, take your rubbish home and no fires
Best spots i think is the bend number 44 (painted numbers on floor) clean ground with god cast, the south east corner on the round end and on a small tide the little white wall casting into the river...also the rubble and few other spots but best IMO listed above.
Fished it since i was 7 never had anything bigger than 8lb from it myself but seem fish of 16lb in the past.................__................................ .............................

It's open unless the waves are coming over. At this time of year the gates shut at around 16:30 but this gets later as you go into summer. There's loads of marks to fish off the pier and a good chuck will normally see you into cleanish ground. Don't make the same mistake as I did once though, I pulled up at Essys. got out of the car to see if the gate was open as it was canny windy and I'd been hoyed off previously in not much worse conditions, saw it was open and got the gear out and fished it. When I got back I had a £25 parking ticket. I always make sure I get a £2.40 for the day ticket but this time mind was preoccupied with fishing. Big mistake.
