    agreed

Your right yours truly, am a clingon who gets in andys shop and take them comments as a personell insult, people cant expect to go online for tackle and supplies to save 2 and 3 pound. then come into a tackle shop and expect dealers to drop at thier feet and hold bait back just incase that one day they buy something from them. Also you find that the clingons are only doing what everyone else on this site is doing trying to find out whats happening and where, and talking general fishing chat just in the form of realife and not cyber angling. Then as soon as a tackle shop owner defends himself quite rightly! someone chirps in lets calm it down and not get personal. Only visit these web sites occasionally and cant find a thread where people are not getting slagged...... so here is my opinion get down your local tackle shop buy a bit gear ask a bit advice get some tips you never know you could learn something or learn them something

I Think Its Fair To Say We As Anglers Owe A Debt Of Gratitude To All Tackle Shop Owners. Who Ever And Where Ever They Are.

I own a tackle shop not too far away from Andy's and he's prices are spot on.

Ive only been in the business since september but i hope 20 years down the line if i survive i have a shop like Andys, If theres something i dont have in i allways send my customers down his shop as i know they WILL get what they want.

if tackle shops in general didnt keep bait for regular customers when ordered in advance over anglers who just pop in now and again then the would not have regular customers , i go to rutherfords now and again but i dont expect better than regulars , but he will sell it if he has it which is all most definatly yes unless it is a bait that is scarse at the time then he might not have it or if he has he is keeping it for himself or regulars who have standing orders for that bait . which i think every tackle shop will do .

When I was in his shop I did ask if he had any crab and he said he didn't have any and it depended on people contacting him to off load bait. I've only used his shop a few times but the way I picked the bloke up I reckon if I'd left him my mob number he would have rang me when he got some in.

ive been watching this thread for a while and could guess how it would end up.alls I can say is that rutherford is the best for terminal tackle in the north east.

i remember going with my dad when i was a nipper, and it still has'nt changed

thats a sign of a successful business

                        Hello,
I would like to add my comments to this thread, these are only my observations and experiences of the two shops mentioned in this thread.

I think Andy Rutherford has an excellent shop with a great selection of tackle, I also find him to be a real nice bloke and I've seen him give advice and time to anglers on more than one occassion.

I sometimes go into Reelsports shop and again I have only had good experiences of this shop. I find Terry to be helpfull and friendly and he has given me some good advice whenever I've asked. I was in just a week or so ago and despite having not been in for several months I was, as always, made very welcome.

Good tackle shops are more than just shops, they are also meeting places and somewhere to catch up on the craic and as such there will always be the same familiar faces in them. I understand that some anglers may not be comfortable with this but on the plus side this is a great way to pick up tips and info.

Tackle dealers, like many other buisinesses, are also suffering from the economic climate and the competition from cheaper on-line deals. I always try and buy from my local ones.........I find that by doing this they also look after me.

This is only my opinion so please guys go easy on me!!

                        Regards Ian

my vision of the best tackle shop would be any of talked about here, but with a small room off the side/back where you could have a cup of coffee and a bacon butty and listen to all the fishing craic, my dream tackle shop would also have fresh mackerel in the pan all day long.
