  • low newton by the sea

was walking the wife and dog on my favorite beach today at around 4 ish when the tide was on the way out and i saw someone wading out to the island which goes a considerable way out. the bloke had his fishing gear with him which got me wondering has anyone on here fished that island before? it seems like a nice place to fish, what gets caught off there? i think might give it a go at some point any pointers ie what times are best for acess what part off the island to fish off and where to cast etc.

the rocky part of the beach looks to me like it might be worth a go with spinning gear perhaps when its a bit warmer. now i know bass fisherman are quite secretive about where the bass are but could anyone reveal if i would be wasting my time trying this here?

    cheers!

the island is the emblestones m8, great mark very tackle hungry in places.
u can fish any part of the island chucking south along the whole lenghth, cod, pollock, coalie & wrasse.
also chucking north along the stretch, deeper water. wade on 2 hours - 1 1/2 hours b4 low depending on size of tide, crab, rag or mussel baits & deep spun sandeel or rag 4 pollock.

Cheers Billzo, the Emblestones is the mark south of there then?

Im back in a couple of weeks and anxious to try out my new slosh30 and see how it compares to my 7000 that Ive always used, and I was thinking of venturing North into the kelp!

To get Newton right you have football Hole at the north end before you get to beadnell and then there is another Skeer south of here before you get to the Emblestones? After the emblestones you'd be at Dunstanburgh?

            Cheers

                Jenny bells

at high water there is a large island at the end off embleton bay, while at low tide the area is exposed and the marks are known as jenny bell's carrs and the emblestone.it is possible to reach these spots a couple of hours before low water , but take care to avoid being cut off as the tide floods, this is a rough ground fishing in heavy kelp, it's definitely cod country that produces fish throughout theb year, peak times are when either the winter or summer fishing are at the height, but there always a few fish kicking about

Fishing In California is alright, but its no cod fishing thats for sure! I've haven't done much but they fish for Halibut and some sort of small shark from pier near we're I live, ill see if I can find a couple of photos!

Im actually working in France at the minute though, until July and then back to Ashington for the summer and back off to Cal later in the year! Im hoping I can get plenty of fishing in up north in and around St Abbs over the summer, it will have been a couple of years since ive been up there! Itching to get back to the local Marks at Cambois and Newbiggin aswell!

A few from Cal as promised

A few picks from the pier in Berkeley, fishing into the san francisco bay!

Fishing in the San Fran Bay, me and my mate were just messing around!

But you can catch some sort of Shark

                              And Halibut

You see all the mexicans with big bait buckets with a pump that contain small live bait fish, which they strap onto a 4/0 or something and bang it out for the Sharks and Halibut!
