I met a lad on blyth pier today called Jimmy he was using Vantage multiplier rod and reel which he swore by, it was a 10ft rod so maybe not the best for beach casting, so i watched him use the rod and it looked quite solid it was nt twitching away like mad in the wind like my rod ( still using my entry level rod shakespeare zeta 12ft ) but still appeared to have good bite detection , I told him that I am currently looking to upgrade my rod, he told he had purchased his from the tackle shop in deleval and that they were £25, and that his mutiplier reel was about the same.

I have also been offered a new grey's orion rod for £70, I have also purchased two second hand multipliers for £20 a Daiwa sealine sl175h and a roddy175 which I intend have serviced and new line put on by Billy's fishing tackle for £12 a piece.

What I would like is your honest opinions on the rods and the multipliers I have bought, I will not be offended as we all have to learn somewhere

wouldnt get vantage rod and multi, seen afew people using them and they cast horrible. if you want a good multi best bet would be a slosh 20 for the price, ask at the tackle shops they somtimes have some second hand ones in i picked up a one a bit battered but worked perfect for 25pound at lewis's. your multiplers you have sound like boat multipliers athough havent herd of them before. for the greys orion very good rod miles better than your shakespeare , do you know if its the first one or second one(mk1 or mk2)?

I honestly think you could do better for the money, the orion is let's say a bit dull and lifeless and the reels you bought one being a light boat reel(diawa) and the other I think was a small baitcaster from penn I believe (5000c size). You can get a shakespeare Salt beachcaster for about 40-50quid depending if you shop local or online and are pretty decent to be fair or a decent combo for the £70 you where thinking about spending on the orion. At the end of the day it has to be your choice (your fishing with it ) just use a bit of common sense and GOOD LUCK.
