  • Beach fishing shelter

Are these really any good to the north east angler? You always see them covering the bottom skirt in gravel....... Do they work on our sort of area? If so which ones are worth a look?

Yeah i have one..you can peg them or use sand..just depends where you fish but they are canny for night sessions along the grassy cliff tops etc

Would never fish without mine when I lived down south (Solent / Chesil / Sussex beaches). Got shot when I moved home as I wasn't using it but bought a new on a few weeks ago and really glad I did.

First time out with it I was down Horden, stiff SE breeze blowing but with the shelter up I was completely out of the wind and the session was much more enjoyable as a result.

Anywhere you will be fishing from a pretty much static spot (colliery beaches, Lynemouth south, cliff tops etc) they can be set-up as long as you can secure it. Keep the wind and rain off as well as being very useful for summer beach fishing as they keep the sun off your bait.

          Ian Golds

Igloo model, there are two now,not tried new model its larger, heavier would imagine than standard size, which you can get two anglers in with all gear at a squeeze. They are the easiest and quickest to put up,probably best reliable made.
The original Beach buddy was very good too.

            .

Ive got the Imax storm safe beach shelter and cant fault it. Only use it few times a year but really handy bit of kit when static fishing in the rain or wind. Only issue is can be quite hard to put up on your own in a strong wind, but no bother if there 2 of you and can fit 2 people in at a squeeze if your not massive blokes.

Does the igloo peg down or is it kept down with sand/shingle on the skirt?

Both mate. It's got pegs at each corner for grass etc but to be secure on the beach sand / shingle / rocks are best. In that SE at Horden mine was totally solid with a couple of decent rocks on either side holding down the skirt

I have the tfg force 8 beach shelter takes 20 seconds to put and is quite sturdy. Use shingle/sand on the beaches to secure it.

I've had a Ron Thompson which I swapped for an umbrella as it was heavy to carry a long way. The brolley is OK but terrible to strong winds. I bought an Ian Golds igloo and they are excellent. Up in seconds and easily held down with sand or shingle or pegged. Failing that you can just add a cord and tie it to anything.
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.
