    Has anyone on here ever eating a rockling and if they survived what did it taste like? Just asking because my mate pulled a canny size one up the other day and it looked keepable but not tasty.

    you can eat them mate, havent ever personally tried it and prob not get alot of meat off them due to size

    av heard their not bad, and they are a member of the cod family. give it ago mate

        Horrible slimy buggers, think they would be a pain to prep for the pan. They grow to a canny size mind - I had one of just over 1lb off the 44 on Shields summer 2009, down in Cornwall they grow even bigger...

            i had one just around the 2lb mark from shields a month ago, seen a nice long brown thing coming in was hoping it was the back of a nice 4-5lb codling until i was't an effort to lift! GUTTED! haha

              The one my mate got at the weekend was also off shields but wasn't as big as that but still made his rod go like the clappers, we thought it was a result until it surfaced.

                Only fish that comes into our waters that you can't eat is the Oceanic Sunfish (Mola Mola), otherwise it's fair game - what some things will taste like is another matter!

                  I know the fishing is desperate at the moment, but howay lads, talking about eating any form of fish from the sea, we will be speaking spanish next...
