Tynemouth pier was started in 1855 completed in 1895, but breached in 1897. It was then repaired and finished in 1909, taking 54 years from start to finish!

Work started to build Roker pier in 1883 and was completed in 1903 - 20 years later. So it looks like geordie cowboys took their time to build tynemouth (twice!) and a quailty mackem labour force done a proper job first time! Apparently, the geordies had to go and have a look at how to build a proper pier!!! :P
