never used preserved bait but found that frozen blacks to be as good as and even out fish fresh lug and it is very handy as you can have a supply in the freezer, and can go fishing as and when you want without having to get to the tackle shop first, or if they are shut

i always salt down my ragworms after a session. used them like this for years and catch just as much as with fresh rag. never used preserved stuff tho.

I personally would stay clear of shop bought "preserved" Ragworm. Gutted Blacks or Runnydown rolled in clingfilm and frozen or fresh are fine, and a great bait combined with mussel after a big sea.

When blyth pier was fishing about a month back - I was using 'preserved lug' bought from ebay for a couple of hours and blanked. When someone leaving gave me what was left of their fresh lug, I got a codling on my first cast out.

Havent bothered with preserved since. Maybe good to keep in your fishing bag for emergency - but I wouldnt use it as a main bait.

lug that most us dig or even buy any thats burst or cut etc can be rapped in newspaper to soak up and then used straight away or frozen then when using for a session can be wrapped on your hook with elastic thread giving a good size bait topped up with fresh worm to boost up a baitup
