3 hook scratcher

Just a Quick question, any one know how a 3 hook scratcher works?

yes thats a three hook flapper, a good rig for scratching for small fish as its not for big baits just small ones ect. oh and and sure but if scratching is what you dont get it means to fish for mainly small fish but with a chance of a big fish aswell.

3 small baits over a big area putting alot of scent into the tide.... can have a very long rig of 8ft or more. So three baits spread over that area scratches with small hooks for anything that wants a go

The term "scratcher" rig was founded when there was not many decent fish about wherever you were fishing, so just like chickens scratching around for food, an angler would down size his tackle to small hooks etc, to catch whatever was around, in order to catch something just to weigh in.
