  • Ryhope-The Targets

    Hello!

Looking for some advice lads; I've heard that the targets in ryhope is a decent low water mark, and would really appreciate some advice where exactly to fish. At the bottom of the path down to it there is the pipe, then directly right looks lkie a series of caves, and to the left there's two rocks (one a small island almost, the other much smaller). There looks like some flat rocks in the area of these islands. Is that path with the pipe at the bottom the only route down, or is there access further north to those flat rocks and islands. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, cheers lads.

PS Anyone know why it's called The Targets?
"Lo, they do call to me; let me take my place among them, where the brave will live...forever". (And drink beer; also forever. And catch some fish).

its called the target because there is a hole roughly 80 yrds out if you get it in the hole then you have a decent chance of a cod (hence the name target) last time i was there the path down was very slippy and muddy it was a canny job to get back up you can also fish off the cliff tops at high water

I dont think that path on the way down is still there the steps have been washed away any way if ya cast 70/80 yrds to the left of the pipe you should
      hit the hole.

Ya will lose gear as well.
Feel free to take a look at my blog.

the target it self is best fished low water then about 2 hours on the flood its better to move ontop of the cliffs and try your luck up there

best at high water from the cliff tops, big tide , big northerly sea. the seaward skeer extends towards the sea for a good 400 yards (maybe more) from the point and breaks the swells up making it fishable

other lads out of the club prefer it at low water. not me(lost too many good fish through the snags)

there is certain places you can pull a decent fish into if you cannot hoist it up the cliff

there is now a old cable to help you climb down near the pipe.

and a tip - the deepest hole is not the target itself
                .
