Bought one a few weeks ago. Excellent little reel; mines loaded with 15lbs line and 60lbs tapered leader. Casts very well and very smooth. I know everyone has their own ideas about different reels, but as far as I am concerned I would definitely recommend one.
My only 'gripe' is the price, but there again if you want quality...........

my mate has just got a 525mag2 today and it looks really cheap. the side plate has a gap around it and doesnt sit flush and if you rub your finger over it its rough... it looks proper cheap and nasty with bonny gold accessories. its the first time i have ad a good look at these new reels. the original mags look alot more robust. i dont no what they cast like but ive heard they are sweet as a nut.... but what happens when your trying to crank a decent fish in or up the side of the pier.

To be honest I wouldn't use mine over rough ground or from a pier, and definitely wouldn't try and 'crank a fish' up with it. They are a small spooled reel, and designed for light line, so clean ground and beaches are when they come into their own.

              Mine!

Ive had a 515 for sometime now and its probably now one ov my favourite reels. It may be expensive, but its wat u pay for, there aint many other small reels on the market that have the same performance.

And... They certainly DO NOT! look cheap.

                  Penn 515

I have had a Penn 515 since they came out and it is a cracking little reel. Casts well, retrieves great, is small and easy to use, but it is not a heavyweight reel (nor was it designed to be). They are a bit pricey at the moment but presumably will come down in price.

Yeah,Ive got a pair of penn 515s I must admit I was a bit unsure about the build quality(me old china)but because there design is penn USA and some good people involved the design I bought them.

First thing I did was strip reel completely and check the innards, well the main drive and pinion typical penn built like a brick sh..ehouse.

got them loaded with 18lb line need brimming because of the small spool but they cast a treat, well controlled with the dial in magnet system,I found about 4 clicks off min did for me.
I did have to remove line and re-spool a couple of times to ballance the spool but once done very smooth with no vibration at all.
The spool bearings needed degreasing and oiling with red top.
overall I'm well pleased with these reels.

The price yes expensive but I think this might go up rather than drop due to vat and inflation.

                    Best deal.....Frazers gatehead.
                    cheers H
