The end of the pinion gear wears and then instead of having a nice square step to lock onto the spool it has a taper which can slip out.
Changed pinion gear and clutch plate on mine and solved it.
£2 for the plate and £6.50 for the pinion gear.
      hope this helps

why change the anti reverse when thats not the problem???

I have the same issue with my origional 525mag. It does seem quite common with the older models, it's prob just down to the age of it. Ya'll just have to remember to turn the handle after casting!

ai i no for a fact it isnt the anti reverse / thanks for all the feedback lads it could possibly be the pinnion gear like it is catching slightly on the brass plate when trying to put it back into the bearing in middle. this could be cos it has a slight nick on it or something but cant see out. i dont mind clicking the handle to get it into gear its just a bit of a headache when it wont go in stright away .. the main concern is i hit a decent fish and it goes into freespool its self lol.
