  • A rod for tynemouth pier

I have just joined Botac so i am going to be fishing the pier quite a bit and at the minute i have a 14ft rod which isnt ideal as its a tight squeeze when casting, so could somebody recommend me a rod which will mainly be used on the pier but which would be perfect to fish the ruff stuff on the pier and the clean ground on the pier

    .

Welcome to BOTAC Adam , yeah all the lads use 13ft rods on there as you aint got much clearance to cast from the lower section ... I normally use the Apollo 13ft or my Century SS ... so any 13 footer you cant go wrong .. but go for something with abit of backbone as you can get some decent fish plus the lower section of the pier in the freezone can be snaggy

the thing is with the kompressor ss being 13ft 10 their isnt much difference between that and a 14fter

You can cast a 14ft rod if you adapt your style, just be careful stepping over the edge!!

A good allrounder for on there would be a AFAW 13 ft match, good fro the small stuff but will also handle a decent cod bait and 6oz.

the thing is i dont like getting to close to the edge to cast so i might try to get a 13ft rod like the Carbon Metal CCC LD

ccc ld will be spot on there lovely rods, when i cast on roker pier near the lighthouse i just face my rod upwards and just give it a little over head thump, never fished tynemouth before so dont know if u will need a decent chuck there or not.

It does help if codling are about and you need to reach the tide run.

adam i would try and get used to using your rod on there for a bit, as you know my rod is 14ft and i manage ok. i was like you the first time i fished the pier, i didn't want to get anywhere near the edge but i'm ok with it now.
