  • Treasure Hunt... of sorts...

aka geocaching with a lemon twist of nesa flavour... I know this isn't the forum for it, but a re-post since more people come here than the chat forum. the original thread is long winded and a bit ranty. But here is my latest post in that thread, please take part if you can or ideally if someone is south of the Tyne and can start there own then we have a spread over the board to please all.

My treasure box/cache's co-ordinates will be online late Friday evening. long and lat degrees from my GPS (any online map site should get them right, google and flashearth are near spot on) plus a simple clue to help you. Take a low value and non-contentious swap item ideally so others can find it and trade - mark the log book as such.

Right, I'm off to build a geocache box purely for NESA members to hunt and find!!!!

      No problem mate.

Think treasure hunt with clues and a map co-ordinate. Now think modern technology added to the mix. I post a satellite co-ordinate taken from a hand-held (moblile phone size) device, hide a little box there and give an extra clue to help out and people look for it - inside there is a "log book" ie just some slips for people to put there name and date on. Some trade items that you can take on the grounds you put something else in - a keyring, a toy, etc. the NESA twist I want is for these to be posted on this site and not the global neocaching.com site (you'll get more reading that site than I could post here) and to mix raising some money for the local RNLI plus a bit of a hoot for NESA members and their families.

So, when I post it, I will give co-ordinates approx to my cache, it will have a pack of non questionable content (beads, swivels etc) worth about a quid.

On the 5th finder, posted here and matching the log book, will see £5 direct to the RNLI.

If we did these once a month and every finder gives just 50p, not a quid, just 50p via NESA into the RNLI pot then I'll be happy and we'll have something new to attain other than a bag of fish...
