  • mordern gear v old gear

been fishing for 40 years now [and still learning]and i have over the years seen a vast change with the fishing equipment that we use, carbon fiber rods, mag reels, led headlights, braid ,steel flasks that don't break when you drop them, etc, etc. of course 40 years ago we didn't have all that hi tech stuff, and the fishing contry to popular believe wasn't that much better, but with fiber glass rods or hand lines, and absolutely crap reels we still caught them . what I'm trying to say is, that it's easier now but it's not better and the fish don't know that you have a souped up carbon fiber 15 foot blaster with mags a pulley pennel rig and the latest up to date micro line, the one thing that hasn't changed in all these years is the most important, and the only thing the fish are really interested in the bait.

Yes Paul totally agree, the only thing fish are interested in is the bait, but like you i've been fishing 40 years and can still remember wanting the latest Abu Atlantic paired with a Sea Streak , i guess you never stop being a tackle tart , you just become an old tackle tart.....

Yep i agree and think at times we all fall into the trap of thinking the gear makes that much differances. Was reading a old sea fishing book the wife found at a car boot a while back.
Quite funny as they say to tie the bait on with red wool, long before bait elastic and they don't know why red works best but it does.
Also to put your bait out at low tide then leave it as the tide comes in and just let line off the spool as you back up till you get a good distance.LOL
