I have fished all over around that area Tony and found it to consistently crap! I was at Fleetwood Nautical College on and off for a few years and the only good fishing was to be had by heading North towards Barrow or South to the Mersey. Even in perfect conditions I struggled and the best I ever had was a couple of Plaice from the Fleetwood end. The tide fly's in as well so it keeps you on your toes!
Good luck if you have a go and I hope I am wrong!

Fished there in the 80's in some weekend competition and there were plenty codling caught. There was a westerly wind blowing a nice bit surf at the time, so if the conditions are similar just look for the holes on the beach at low water, and fish over the top of the tide. Good luckP.B. Tony, the beach as a whole is your best bet. If you can tag along with a local you could fish low water up BUT don't go out to low on your own as the gullies will fill behind you without you noticing. If you can't find a local willing to take you out then you can always fish the beach from about 3 hours before high tide and a couple of hourd after. Recommended spots are towards Fleetwood, behind Rossall Hospital or up to the coastgaurd station. It's all clean ground so no problems with rocky bits. Local lug is good if you're unable to get any crab to take with you, I don't think you will buy crab locally.
If you don't want to travel from Blackpool the fishing from the lower prom behind the Metropole Hotel (right beside North pier) can be OK but I think you may find the tides a bit small this weekend.
A good bait shop is Bispham Angling on Red Bank Road at its junction with the promenade, just google bispham angling and there is a map.
Good luck if you get to have a go !!!If all about you are catching fish, cast in their swim !!!
