Well lads just got back yesterday from our trip to Northern Ireland. Not exactly sure of how many fished the Police compo but there seemed a lot.
We fished a couple of beaches. One in daytime and the other in darkness.
Weather was abysmal on the night match with North winds and Hailstone but i did ok. 3 size fish in a dab, whitie, and coalie. Best catch for me was a new one for my species-unfortunatly he did,nt make the 20cm mark so no points for him.
On the day match it was slow going so i ditched the 3 small hook rig which had caught me one flounder and launched out a pulley rig loaded with Welsh rag. The result was a 2 1/2 pound Bass.
I thought this had bagged me biggest fish in the compo put some other guy on a beach round the corner caught a bigger Mullet. Hat off to the fella-a rare fish to catch and it wieghed in at least a pound heavier. I missed out on a £350 pay out (sob sob) but never mind thats fishing.
Well done to Chut (Ian Ainslee our Captain)for winning his sector of the beach on the first day and to Peter Chadwick for the best speciman fish a big flounder.
Mick.
ps all of my fish went back alive.
