  • PULLEY LENGTHS

The rig I tend to use more often than any other, is a single hook pulley and I always make the hook snoods in differing lengths using 25lb Amnesia.

Longest I \'ve used is 24\" for \"not so rough\" areas and the shortest 10\" for the very rough areas. The theory being, the shorter the snood, the less chance of it becoming snagged

I\'ve been making some up tonight (last night), for the comp on Friday (today) and when I was making them, I wondered what sort of hook snood lengths others used..........and do you find it makes that much difference as far as reducing snags goes??

mine are more or less the same as yours Tony with the same theory in mind, think my shortest is about 12\" with different lengths after that, still get snagged the same though lol

never given it a huge a mount of thought really, but thinking back, of all the rigs I use, its always the ones with shorter snoods that snag less. ost I make tend to be in the 15 to 18 inch region

I always try to use long snood lengths over 24 inches, most of them 3ft or longer but like Tony says, it depends on the sea/tide etc. My theory behind the long snoods is the fish isn\'t likely to feel any resistance until its too late. Downside could be missed bites though, but they\'ve served me well in the past.

I fished Roker pier some years ago with a running leger with a 4 ft snood for whiting, and for some reason, everyone I got was at least 1lb, the best just on 2lb whereas everyone else had the normal 12oz fish. Why, I don\'t know.

mine are more or less 50/50 with the hook line slightly shorter so the weight can hook onto the bait clip thingy ,never really thought about length v performance haha oops you know what i mean ,id normaly go arms length route same as john but on hindsight shorter may be better for rocky marks
              cheers Bri

Please dont fish next to me when using a pulley rig!!!!!!!
They are a bloody nightmare unless you use at least 100lb BS main body and im not joking! What happens is that either your swivel cuts through you line when casting or the see saw motion thru the swivel will fray and weaken the trace resulting in a lost fish or a crackoff.

Got to say I use a pully pennel all of the time and have never had one snap when casting. I will say that I have had them snap on the retrieve at the swivel when being snagged. I also find that when I get a fish on I am more likely to get my gear back as the fish is at the bottom instead of the weight. Before I started using a pulley rig I lost a lot more fish than I do now.

All I can to that CHUKKA, is that you\'ve either not made them properly or used inferior tackle......lol

Like willywetegg and Jonny, I\'ve NEVER had one fail during a cast. The only times I\'ve EVER lost anything when using pulley rigs has been due to a snag, either on the hook or by the gripper.

ive never had any problems at all with pulleys i always use 80lb line for the rig body and a swivel of around 110lbs you will only have problems if you use cheap swivels with thin wire if you use quality components you shouldnt have swivels cutting through your line

Lol chukka, normally throw mine away after using it,probably if you use it time and again it will fail, stands to reason m8,IMO.

Same here...never had any bother with pulleys snapping.

What happens is that either your swivel cuts through you line
Is this due to those razor swivels? :P :P
