The building on the edge of the green there was Cullercoats Radio for decades and decades, hence the marconi point bit. Was one of the World's First DF stations for decca transmisions in the days before GPS. Still transmits on MF and HF frequencies and is responsible for NAVTEX and Weatherfax broadcasts too but its all automated now from a wee concrete box at New Hartley. Was a major marine facility known the wold over once upon a time!

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

lol, when was the last time you heard me say '' i fished the pier, i fished blyth beach????????''

i think you will struggle for an answer to that ;D

variety is the spice of life, no good fishing the same mark or the same area just because fish were caught there the last time you were out, you need to roam according to the conditions and fish accordingly.

just a shame it never works for me lol

i will have a reccy on the way back from graft tomorrow and make my mind up, i have a good idea were i will be tomorrow, judging off what i saw tonight.

our club needs some balls, 4hr comps and way bigger boundaries the same as every where else, that way we learn more.
nee good this finishing sharp to get back for a pint lark ;D

            Hello Tony,
Like canman (Arthur) has said it used to be a popular high water shot. Many years ago the Whitley festival (I think) used to be a two day event.....you fished low water one day and high water the next.
I'm sure that it was won from marconi point at least once. I have never been there for years so can't tell you much about it but the ground below and around that area (the warriors in particular) is a noted big fish mark.
            Regards Ian.

                          Marconi Point

Is Marconi Point a verified land mark or a fishing station. Or maybe used in fishing circles as a broad term because they aren't quite sure where they are fishing.

I'm struggling to understand what you mean mate - apologies

Do you mean is it called such and recognised on maps and the like or is it a name that anglers have thought up to identify a given spot?

I've always been a bit confused regarding marconi and only used it as a general area because there a good few fishing marks in front of it, thats why i asked if it was a land mark.

in that case then - from what has been mentioned on this thread and elsewhere I am now sure that Marconi Point refers to the cliffy type outcrop itself and is a mark in it's own right
