  • Bait from the supermarket?

I was hoping to get out tonight but ended up stuck at work until 6pm. Any ideas on anything worth getting from the supermarket? I might be able to pick up some mackerel, or raw prawns, but are they any good, or any other suggestions? I usually stick with lug, rag or crab.

Would defo look out for mussel or squid first. Heard people catch with the prawns but never tried it..... supermarket mackeral is usually mush, wouldn't feed it to my kids nevermind try to catch fish with it, but if it gets you out fishing then it's better than nowt.

      Goodluck

I know it doesn't help for tonight but I always keep a couple of wraps of runnydown and some mussel in the icebox for times like this. Nowt worse than being keen to fish and not being able to get hold of any bait

              Spot on advice!!

Every time you go to the bait shop get an extra, be it runnydown, mussel, razor and you'll soon have enough bait as back up for when you're stuck at work. Another bit advice is stock up during the summer with blacks and crab, much better bait than the sh!te they sell in the supermarkets. Remember - Fail to prepare, prepare to fail

Thanks for all the replies. Wise words about stocking up. Got 30 frozen blacks and some squid ready to kill. Just waiting for the right moment.

Not sure about the pickled onions.
