hi guys, can i just say I am very grateful for all the help and guidance I have had from the members of this sight, as a returning angler of a fifteen year break i have found this sight a valuable source of advise.
problem i am having is I always fished with a ABU 7000c back in the day. I borrowed an ABU 7000c of a mate and cast with no problems now I am returning. I wish to return the ABU as it was only loaned so I have bought a sloss 30 as recommended by many anglers. With the brake fully on and me taking my time to cast and not belt it out there I keep getting nests with the slosh, I have adjusted the star drive and break, re filled spool with different line, changed my shock leader knot to try and create a smaller knot so it does not grab when casting out, but still I get nests. These are not horrific nests but they do tangle and it takes me time to untangle. I pick up the old ABU and it goes out no problem, im sure I am doing something wrong with the slosh, anyone got any ideas, the slosh is brand new and only been cast a dozen times. Any help would be appreciated.

you will probably need to put some brake blocks in, had the same problem with mine but now its got the blocks in its fine, however i'm not sure which colour blocks you will need to put in though, im sure somebody on here will tell you how to fit them as i dint fit mine myself i cant tell you how to do it

Yeah, sloshes don't come with any brake-blocks fitted - they're in a little bag floating about in the box somewhere along with the tools, clamp etc. Take the endplate off and fit the two big red ones (think it shows you how in the booklet) then adjust the cap under the star-drag until you have the tiniest amount of side-to-side play in the spool - don't over-tighten this or you'll end up knackering the spool. You should notice a big improvement with the brake-blocks in!

      Cheers, Gary

a lot depends how much line you are putting on reel and what breaking strain you use .

slosh 30 my advice use 25lb line about 4mm under spool lip put some engine gearbox oil in bearings one drop make sure you have brake blocks in not sure what you get with slosh 30 . straight overhead thump i would say should be safe but may depend in blocks you put in. slosh 30 is a very fast reel not an easy reel to use if you have had a lay off.

were abouts are you anyway m8.
did you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

timely thread this as I have just purchased a second had slosh 30 today...

Gary's comment RE: Brake Blocks made me have a look (as I hadn't even thought about it TBH)...no brake blocks can just imagine the words that would have come forth when I tried it out for the first time

...so...where can I get some from? (for the weekend preferably)
          Ooh a new vid!

I don't buy blocks just use the plastic tube from the inside of a biro, cut to size, the longer the more braking.

what kind of length equates to the two red blocks then?

                    brake blocks

thanks for the replies guys, first of I am in south shields for the one that asked, secondly there was no blocks in the box when I bought it, I just presumed the blocks would have been fitted from new. I got the real from my local tackle guy who said it had been used once, instruction booklet in box but no brake blocks. I did get the real 20 quid cheaper so i aint going to complain. this brake block advice makes sense to me, I'm sure when I check the real i will find this to be the fault cheers.

Yeah, don't recommend the biro-thing - ask anyone who services reels & they'll tell you they have a nasty habit of melting and gunking up the inside of the reel. Biro plastic ain't designed to stand up to many thousands of rpms and the heat generated. Proper blocks are only pennies anyway - if you're stuck mate I've probably got a few kicking about somewhere.
