  • Mail Order Problems

Hi guys, I am back into fishing after a fifteen year break. As you can imagine all my gear is either out of date or lost, due to this I have spent a good few hundred quid on new takle and gear over the last few weeks. I thought i would try and save a little money by buying some tackle from a mail order company.
Glasgow angling. I've had a some problems, first of all 2 days after placing the order I got a phone call asking for my home address when it was clearly stated on the order, cant believe it took 2 days for the call, then it took over a week for my stuff to arrive,it cost a tenner for delivery by pigeon.
then I find my free item, which I was due for spending over 50 quid was missing. Also when I checked my bank account they have taken 10 quid more than they billed me for.I have emailed and emailed and have still not had a reply.
is this a common problem that occurs with online companys, think this may be a lesson to use my local tackle guy.

I would either write or e-mail. No company likes getting slagged of on forums-it affects business.
personally for really dear items like rods and reels i use my local tackle shops. Really good in case there is a problem.
      Mick.

I've bought quite a bit from Glasgow Angling and I've never had any problems, their delivery charges do seem to be on the high side at times though. I prefer ordering from Gerry's of Morecambe, great service and goods are sent out promptly but again your looking at around £10.00 delivery for every order. Also check out breakaway-tackle.com as I've managed to grab some bargains from them too. As Mick points out, I would get on the phone to them because as he say's no company likes bad press and especially on a forum. Cheers, Mike

              bad press

Hi lolipop, sounds like we have had similar problems, I was expecting a fillet glove, nothing arrived, I don't like giving companies a bad press, but how many people have they done this to. Think I will stick with my local dealer in future. once bitten and all that.

If you want to buy something new, then search the internet, get the cheapest price, print it off then take the print off to your local tackle shop. 9 times out of ten they will match the price, and you will usualy save on postage costs. Everyone benefits : you get your item imediately for the same price, the tackle shop gets a sale, and most importantly it helps them to stay open. The internet is a great invention, but trust me you don't want your local tackle shops to go out of business.
I have often looked for rods, reels etc on the internet, but have always given the tackle shop the option to match the price first. Never been knocked back yet.
Obviously this only applies to NEW tackle.
                Good luck.

Come on boys, support you local tackle shop, or before you know they will be gone.
Ever tried asking if they could match these internet or magazine prices, you might get a surprise.

go local not only does it keep them going but the main thing is you can check your gear while in the shop for damage and get it swapped

Ordered the fisheagle floatation suit myself last month from glasgow a/centre, also asked for the freebie headlight, came after a week, no headlight but the filliting glove, only paid £59.99 plus pp, already learnt my lesson with mail order companies so paid by cheque when posted order, no probs, except i dont need a f/glove as cant catch big enough fish lol.

I have used both Gerrys of Morcambe and Veals without an issues at all - best of all I found Gerrys the cheapest for most items.
