  • what would you buy?

    I am after some advice.

    what would you buy?

    eliminator

    ttr

    compressor s

    compresser ss

i have already had loads of advice off lads on the pier about all of the rods above, but i can not decide what to buy.

i do have problems with my back and people have told me the eliminator is too heavy and this is what i was going to buy.

ttr is a bit of a beast sometimes when i havnt used mine for a few weeks its give is a bad back, i think the eliminator is abit easier to cast with a softer butt and skinier butt but its abit longer. and the kompressor ss is a nice rod im always using mine the kompressor s has the same tip just the butt is abit softer

The Eliminator and TTR are both great rods but if you have trouble with your back they will not be for you.
The Kompressor SS is mint, a bit softer lot more forgiving on the cast and less of a beast than the other 2 and will suit you fine for most of your needs.

        hi danny,

I have the kompressor ss and think its great but standing holding it waiting for that fish to bite again does make your back ache,
oh and av had mine for about a year now and its been back already to get re-whipped as the whipping started to go brown and its started to brown again

have you thought of looking at a zipplex very good rods and a lot lighter than century

Danny, all those rods are pokey and relatively heavy/suitable for rough ground mainly, although some argue the Kompressors are all rounders. An asian rod like a sonik sk4 is lighter and tough, and a step down the century bully boy laddder to a standard carbon metal / express or c3 ltd will give you a more usable rod. My carbon metal stood up to 6 oz and big baits hurled into huge seas on Saturday night and was a pleasure to use.

                      Hi

I have the same problem with my back and i have just got a Rovex Big Boss its very light and i have used it on the heavy ground around hartlepool and had no problems at all. It cost me £89 pounds from the Tackle shop on the Headland and i love it, my back has not give me jip at all... I was thinking of a Sonic but was worried about the problems people were talking about.
                      Hope this helps

Where will you be doing most of your fishing?

My vote would be none of the above, unless you are getting it for heavy duty rock / kelp work or fishing off the cliffs. The rods you list are way way overgunned for general beach work or even using off Roker.

If you have a bad back and will mainly be fishing clean beaches / mixed ground do yourself a favour and get a softer rod - I use a TTLD for 95% of my fishing including into big seas and rotten conditions and it is a top class piece of kit. I've cast over 200 yards with it on the field and it has plenty of power for a lovely slim blank. Alternatives as mentioned would be a standard Carbon Metal or a C3LD or maybe look at the AFAW or Sonik ranges.

Remember a stiff rod is not necessarily a good rod - far from it IMHO.

Will aTTLD really cast 6oz and bait and not wobble about in the wind/tides? Looks too parabolic/c curved to do any weed hauling, even on a clean beach?
