i sent a full exhaust for a car up to the highlands a few weeks ago and it only cost me 14quid, next day delivery and that was with extra insurance, im sure it was myparcel.co.uk , they asked when it needed to be picked up, i gave them an hr window and they were bang on time. citylink were the courier for them.
if not, type in cheap uk couriers into google, i have used a few for big bulky items and they have been spot on, i think interparcel was another one?

I have sent a couple rods using interparcel for around £8 which is well cheap but will probably be more to ireland, i put them in carpet cardboard roll which you can pickup at any carpet shop for nowt n just use scrumpled newspaper or carrier bags as packing for the inside.
I have used interparcel to send lots of stuff & had no problems at all.
