Looe was & maybe still is, a top spot for Tope & stuff. You won't get any fishing in though unless you go after all the kids are in bed or before they get up ( & I don't mean just yours) Cornwall will be rammed full of families with bloody kids bouncing round on body boards in every fishable location. We went during school hols a few years ago, worst thing we ever did.
Oh & you may as well remortgage the house so you can pay to park anywhere you want to stop seeing as you'll have to fish from rocks.

Change your plans, go somewhere else.

Had a week in Looe about 4 weeks ago, same plan as you, pack the spinning and float rods and sneek in a couple of sessions, however finding marks to fish proved to be a challenge. Fishing off Looe pier is banned during the summer season, you can fish a mark opposite, the white rock, and it's straight into deep water. Looe beach looks ok but it's crowded. The coastal path heading west out of Looe offers some good rock marks but it is mountain goat territory. I walked down from our site to a couple of rocky beaches at Talland Beach where the locals were plugging for bass, saw 4 being caught, it is a steep decend but it can be reached by car, however the roads are single track and they can be a nightmare in the peak season.
The best mark I found was Millendreath Pier which is is just to the east of Looe where you can fish onto sand or rocks, had success on the float with wrasse and pollack and caught a few mackerel when spinning. There are a couple of shops in Looe that sell frozen bait whilst you can dig lug further up the river. Hope this helps and I must say Looe is a great town and you should enjoy your stay.

Not sure about the fishing there but you will have to see Polperro, about 5 miles drive west of Looe, park your car in the car park at the top of the village and walk down to the harbour. Prettiest harbour in Cornwall. Grab a pasty in the pasty shop on the way down best pasty in cornwall. Regarding the fishing i seem to remember that there are plenty of Grey Mullet in the creeks around Cornwall maybe worth a try up from Looe inland of the bridge ?
