Prawns as bait ?

As the title says, are they any good off the N/E coast ? My local supermarket has them on for £ 2. About 5"long and you get about 6. Is this a worthwhile buy ?

Debate that has been gone over before and it seems some people have found they worked and others not,but that would be the same for any bait.

I have tried them and had small flatties,best way is try them.
After all at that price its worth a go.

tried them in the past only had the odd few whities but thats it nothing to shout about but right bait at the right time is often the case at most venues

Used them on holiday spain / greece and worked well there so might do here

Had good success with them in the past used as a cock-tail in big seas winter time, excellent for bulking up big baits give em a go mate

Cheers lads, I'll give them a try this weekend, hey Rayo, the wife didn't believe I was buying them for bait, telling her I gotta go to Spain to use them might be stretching it

been using them last few month on a pulley rig couple of worm and tiped off with a raw prawn not the big ones. been working well even for the codling farm foods big bag 650g for £5.45

These are from ADSA 200 grms (9 prawns in this pack) and a standard biro for size reference.

And if they fail as bait they let look delicious to eat, with some garlic, chilli and a couple of shandies

Regards bait. Just came back from Wing Hong Supermarket, Stowell Str.
They now have in stock razorfish £4.95 packet, mussel £3.95, blue velvet crab, prawns, whelks and any number of other possible baits. Must be new stock as they had run out not so long ago.

prawns are are ok for tipping imho...did read in tsf that you can use cooked/ raw shelled or unshelled prawns ... they defo work in other parts of the world .....in fact for those with time u can find prawns either by using a prawn net on low wter or u can also find them at the edge of water.....use to collect prawns and sandeels when i was jobless and had plenty spare time ....u gotta be quick tho

Agreed, sang their praise for price, quality and quantity many times over the years, being sold for food, but some great bait items in there and no-where near the prices in the usual supermarkets and tackle shops.

from time to time prawns have out fished any bait on the boat this year,but then again so has frozen black lug from time to to time,and indeed there was a time when rag was doin the business also.then along came the maccaroonies and nowt else was needed.squid has been the "quiet bait"this year.these are my personal views,and im sure everybody else will have theirs. hope this leaves you in no doubt as to which bait is best

i was in wing hong on sunday gone. bought the razor clams.4.95 for a box.probably need two at a time for a cod bait but great value.the mussels looked cooked to me so didnt bother getting them.as for prawns as bait . i have caught plenty flattys on raw king prawn.cut them in half use the tails as bait the top half in a curry.

yes, but havent really looked to see if raw or cooked.
