  • Whack a mole

Finished my night shifts this morning so thought i would go down to whitley rock pool try a bit of spinning, use a popper and maybe try with the float, got down there for 08.15am no one about, the weather was a bit gloomy but it was nt raining and looked like it was going to start brightening up started with a popper, then within twenty minutes of starting 1 scuba diver turned up and proceeded into the water and within 5 minutes was 30/40 yards in front of my mark ( was using a flotation buoy as a marker ), so i moved thought to myself dont get agitated.

Ten minutes later 5 more divers turned up, i could see they were planning there dive as they were pointing every direction including were i was, ten minutes later there all in the water, but these lads were nt using marker buoys and started popping up everywhere, as my title describes it was like being at the amusements playing a game of whack a mole.

Decided to quit fishing as it was getting my back up, I was having no luck with the popper and was concerned about the presence of these A holes, and spinning was obviously out of the question, and i was too p****d of to get in the car and go and set up elsewhere.

On route to the car there was another 6/7 divers by the road side getting ready to dive.

This is the fourth or fifth time i ve been fishing of rocks and had divers take the ****, the last time one of the cheeky b*****ds came over and proceeded to tell me while pointing to where i was fishing that he would be diving there, there and there, replied that he should watch out for my gear then.

Is it just me or do divers think that there right to access the water trumps ours, only dealt with one considerate diver who has come over been polite asked me how i was fairing and where i was planning on fishing and assured me he would stay away from these marks.

it is a popular spot for divers, ive had them cut my line down there before when float fishing, when they came out i told them to go back in and get my float kit and they did and apologized. they must have thought they were tangled in discarded line.

Roll on winter is all I can say. Freezing cold, pitch dark and big seas tend to mean we anglers have the beach to ourselves. I wonder why?
