  • Sandy bay, Ashington

Going to sandy bay for weekend and was thinking of chucking abit of gear in the car for a few hours fishing. Never been there before and just after a bit of advice about the area if any of you good people could oblige?

    Cheers

At this time of year it's mainly flatties from Sandy Bay unless you fish the rocky areas around Newbiggin and Cambois where you have a better chance of catching cod, pollack and coalfish. You could also try spinning and float fishing for mackerel at the Beacons which is the point north of Newbiggin along the track from the golf course.

Cheers for that BB, might stick a spinning rod in the car too then! Won't have masses of time to fish as its a family trip, but the wife has granted me some fishing time!

You will catch flatfish and there is also a chance of a bass and sea trout. At low water wade across the river wansbeck and head south towards the outflow pipe and you will see a couple of holes/gutters that hold flatties. In a slight sea there will be breakers which can hold bass & sea trout, sand eel and ragworm are good baits.
A walk along the cliff path brings you to Newbiggin Bay which over high water is a very good shot into deep water, flounders, plaice & dabs can be expected and also mackerel if there in. If you want any more info drop me a pm
