Last Thursday saw the first day of the Northernly wind! It was with fishing in mind, that I got in to the car and recced Tynemouth Beach and some of the features that are in present on a big tide.
LW was a 0.0m at approximately 1100hrs, with the evening LW at 0.3m.
I got down to the Beach just before LW and was welcomed by the fresh Northernly, as well as the beautiful site of the beach awash with white water.
I went to the tackle shop and picked up some cracking rag and frozen mussell.
Kieth and I fished the evening LW two down and two over.
We initially fished at one mark on the beach. This location produced a decent codling with the first cast.
We then fished a mark further North.
We could not have hoped for a better session. It was a fish a cast. The mussell tipped rag seemed to produce a little quicker than the rag alone.
I was using a single 3/0 Mustad on a rotten bottom rig.
I had hoped with the movement in the water, that the the Codling would switch on to the feed. I was happy to see that this was the case.
With having caught Codling throughout the year on my local marks I was pleasantly surprised to see the size ranging from a lb to approximately 2.5lb.
Over LW the fish seemed to get a little heavier and so it was with a mixture of happiness and saddness that we left, due to Kieth having a committment the following day.
With having a double figure fish MIA in Eyemouth, I can now also report that I have a spool release WIA (Penn 525 MAG). It is in good hands and awaiting a delivery.
Whilst flicking the spool release to release, a crack formed in the release arm and I could not get the leverage anymore to turn the screw that loosens the spool. Nightmare! Oh well, I improvised, adapted and overcame, with the use of the flat head screw driver Kieth produced from his box. Cheers!
I apologise for the delay in this being posted, but I am glad to have read a similar thread this week posted by someone else who ventured out during the Northernly.
Hopefully, these apparent numbers and sizes bode well for the Winter!
All the best,
Wayne.
(Unusually, I'm having an epic trying to upload the pic's. Once I've managed to sort the problem out I will edit this thread)!
