on about piers and councils try redcar council thay spend 50 thousand pound putting new lights on the coast road trouble lit every bodys house up like a xmas tree so thay took em all down now we have heard there going 2 build a multi million pound vertical pier on the sea front just what redcar needs lol

The trouble is that money comes from various places and often it has to be spent in certain ways.
For example a grant may only be used for a project that has art or an artisic theme and not to maintain or repair structures.
Not sure if this is the case but it is to simple to assume that cash is available for all projects

Could be wrong here, but I thought most piers were owned/maintained beyond the entrance points by the relevant harbour authority? I'd certainly think the coast road will be highways dept. New pier is probably a multi-input initiative to improve tourism or just the aspect of the area.

yes a vertical 1 straight up in the sky, what a complete waste of money, redcar and cleveland council are idiots.

be much better and attract much more visitors if they built 1 out to sea !

Bit of a daft term since it's not really a pier as we know it, but all joking aside, they are going to build one - an 80ft high tower at a cost of about £30 million - was announced in January it seems..... BBC News - Vertical pier for seafront revamp
