  • Blyth Pier.

I decided to give Kieth a bell today after a bit graft in the garden, to suggest something that would be totally new to the two of us!

I have just become the owner of a Mitchell Sea Bass rod coupled with a Daiwa Crossfire 3050X reel!

I decided a while ago to try other tactics, including lure and float and so decided on a little trip tonight!

I heard from a source that there is a chance of some cracking Pollack from Tynemouth Pier.
However, due to not being a member of a club that is allowed to fish from there, I put that well and truely on the back burner!

It did make me think though ! I normally steer clear of the piers, normally prefering the rock and beach marks!

We moved about half way along the pier, with the intention of starting there and then moving along if required. The wind was forecast as a slight N, turning to a NW. HW was at approximately 2155hrs! We fished this about three hours up during what was a bright calm night. The water was like a mill pond. The pier was full of people spinning and float fishing alike.

The Mackeral was plentiful along the pier and seemed to be in good health. Mackeral fell to both lure and also the float. However, a point to note is that they certainly appeared to prefer the silver shimmer of a sliver of mackeral on the hook under the float!

Coalies were also in abundance of varying sizes ranging from sprat to about a quarter of a pound.
These provided us with a decent tickle on the light gear, and provided a cracking few hours trying something completely new (for us both).

It was interesting to see the various sizes, especially in comparison to the Coalies we produced during a recent night on a beach.

The whole purpose of the night was to get our hands in with the light gear, whilst understanding the setup and how to employ it in the future!

We achieved the above whilst having a cracking few hours with a little bit of sport for good measure!

I'm now looking forward to using the light gear in many of the venues I bottom fish during the Summer and would urge those who have thought about it but have not yet tried it, to do so!

    All the best Wayne.

Great stuff Wayne, another nice write up there. Float fishing is great fun. Definitely worth a go from the rocks too

    Cheers
