i'm bringing my two grandsons up to shields this coming weekend,and will be taking them fishing, they are too young for the peir, aged 11 and 8. i have taken them down to the mill dam before, but it can get crowded in the school holidays, so probably the walkway, or even brighams, they are happy to catch owt, even crabs, is there much doing in the tyne just now?also i think high water is around 5-6pm at the weekend. any help much appreciated.

iv been fishing the walkway recently had lots of codling just undersized some were size aswell but the tides are getting bigger and its abit snaggy on bigger tides. id probly head up the river a little bit as iv never really caught much at mill dam but i used to always fish the brighams when i was younger never caught nothing tho

The Angel is the old Brigham & Cowans old shipyard where they built the housing estate on a few years back. Driving into Shields take the river road heading towards the market. Pass by Alum House (a pub) keep on going up the road till you get to the next roundabout then turn left into the estate. Drive down to the bottom of the road and park on the left. That is the angel as you will see by the statue. Its a nice place to take your children or in my case my granddaughter.Very safe as it is all fenced off with a good high fence, and there is always water there. Best of luck.

Yeah one of my favourite marks that - almost always quiet and virtually never any charvers. Not many snags either. I like to fish off the corner of the call centre building. You can use it's car park as the building is empty now (the company went bust recently) so you can fish only a few yards from your car. Had loads of coalies from there a couple of weeks back over high water. Handy for a quick pint in the Alum on the way home too :
