    Not since mid feb...
    Should get the pier to yourself this time of year and theres usually whiting kicking about at the very least.
    Chance of bass also

        Well youre always in with a chance from the Heugh...but I'd be surprised if you got anything over 1lb - as far as codling goes.

        Yes the bass are there, daytime also.

        Say it quietly...I'd imagine the macky might be in also!

          seen many bass off the heugh? ive only heard of one and it was about 7 inches long

            A few years back I was fishing the Heugh daytime for a few macky and a bloke pulled in a couple bass on bait, biggest about 2.5lb.

            I've never heard of anything big coming in. Crimdon went through a phase about 10 years ago of attracting big bass and whilst I do hear rumours of canny ones still being caught at Crimdon I havnt seen any in a long time with my own eyes.

                it will be a low water session so will i be better off casting off the end or the side this time of year

                  you cant really target bass off the heugh. the odd small one does turn up occasionally as a suprise by catch. this time of year it will be dabs and whiting with the odd undersize codling or flounder. first light might give some early mackerel if the waters clear. you could also get a few coalies down the side.

                    had 24 mackerel on saturday afternoon every one was catching them, about 10 lads fishing, and not a chav in sight.
