  • Seahouses

I'm off to Seahouses next week for the first time, 17th July onwards, and want to take my young nephew fishing. Can anyone suggest suitable locations for the in-experienced caster?

Would also be grateful for info regarding availability of bait and advice on baits and rigs for this area. Our tackle is fairly lightweight, as my usual stamping ground are the sandy beaches of Pembrokeshire, so we probably won't have the kit for rough ground.

    Thanks for any help,

    Golly

Craster harbour for good flounders about 2hrs after high water. Don't know how old he is but if younger it's a bit off the water with no railings. Simple rag and mackerel sufficient.

Both piers at Seahouses are ok for the young ones to fish from. Also at Beadnell as well. There is a shop in Seahouses that sells tackle such as hooks, sinkers and spinners, but I am not sure about the bait. Best go to Amble for that. Have a good holiday.

The gift shop opposite The Ship Inn sells frozen baits, and sometimes has worm but not the most consistent stockist, as well as odds and ends of tackle. Never fished seahouses itself but the little harbour at beadnel can produce some canny flatties casting off the end into the bay. Watch the rising tide as the far end is underwater at high tide. It is safe enough for little ones though my old man used to take me when i was 4 or 5. Can also be fun for the young ones to drop a little hand line down the wall with a small hook and tiny bits of bait. There are usually plenty little fish upto about 5 inches swimming around the wall picking up scraps which can keep them entertained waiting for a bite on the bigger rods, or at least it did me. Hope this helps

We go to Seahouses in August for a weeks caravan holiday. You can fish in the harbour or float or fish down the side of the two piers for small coalie.
Fresh bait is a problem as there is none.Like the last post says you can get tackle from the gift shop and they now sell the rag in packets where you add water. I looked for places to dig but its hard work-harbour - not allowed and the beaches are protected as it National Trust.
Personally if its a nice day why not try a boat trip. Unity takes you out for three hours and its only about £15 each. rods and reels supplied for a fiver.Daylights catch mackeral and Cod.Good experience for the bairns.
If you want to stick with the piers take some rag / lug with you in a cooler box.

            Tight lines Mick
ps we are there in a 5 weeks time and i,m just taking a spinning rod.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

If you can pick up some mackerel from fishmongers it will take flounder and turbot from any of the beaches up there. Cannot get any safer than a beach for a young`un
