what kind of price would the license need to be ? what about disabled or unemployed anglers who are struggling to survive let alone buy a license ? (bait prices are steep enough to start with) who would police it ? we don't need another bloody license we will end up needing a license to fart next,, just use common sense if some dickhead is being stupid phone the cops and don't give this crap government another tool to tax us with we are the most taxed nation in Europe we don't need anymore licenses if you don't like the ********s making a stink then the only thing to do is move somewhere else like what was said in another post its unfortunate yes but the police are the only way to sort em out if they are committing an offense get them nicked all piers should be alcohol free anyway simple as that (or chin em yourself and get yourself nicked not a good idea )

ive had a course licence for 15 years had it checked twice theres no point for a sea licence people would just fish without one while we payed for one some thing needs done though the rubbish and crap people leave is bad enough never mind chopping fish up just cause you wont touch it

Local competitions are the worst offenders people kill fish just for a chance of a prize or money or even just to have there name down on the weighin in list the majority of fish that gets killed are just dumped there should be better things put in place to stop this from happeningCod machine

i have been reading this debate with interest and a good debate it is to ,however, i have yet to read a point of view that would realistically work, for instance a sea fishing licence, the fresh water licence i believe helps to pay for the upkeep of our water ways and lakes and the restocking of fish where needed, how can a sea licence help with the upkeep of our shore line and how the hell can you restock the north sea,so what would the money we would pay for a licence actually be invested in to the benefit of sea anglers, can anyone tell me, the second point i would like to make is the moronic minority [or is that majority] that fish our coast during the summer months and sometimes during the winter as well, you can't arrest someone for being a moron its not against the law, neither is throwing fish at each other as long as both parties agree to it,being drunk and disorderly is an offence , but getting a bobby down onto the pier is a different problem i know ive tried it they usually have bigger fish to fry,pun intended, talking and trying to educate them has no effect on them remember they are morons it goes into one ear then hits wood, i really don't know the answer but its not getting any better, we either have to put up with it or stop fishing the marks these people go to which would be a shame. [just a footnote a article in the Sunday times about fish stocks and i quote Dogger bank. Britain's lucrative herring fishery collapsed in 1960s, overall, north sea fish populations have fallen to about 5% of natural levels .unquote ,food for thought if they do bring in a sea licence.

fair points matchman as to the cost of a license who knows? but i would bet my bottom dollar say £20 the first year then as soon as the agency who are controlling it im guessing the council would put it up to £30 the next year
and so on eventually pricing the decent anglers out of the sport we love while the wrong ones go on and on as for the chinning lol maybe a few years ago im to old now .. as a person who fished blyth area many many times im thinking its only a matter of time before the pier area will be closed because of the idiots who fish the pier take a look at the road markings (private road) and the gates, some idiots even tried to burn the pier down a few years ago
all im saying is don't give the idiot government of councils more ammo to tax us anti-social behaviour needs to be stopped and thats what the police get paid for im sure the police would get sick to death of being called out to the little gits but what else can we do ? regards batt22

couple of things that might or might not work
first, No feather fishing allowed, who is gonna police that though
second, Close the piers to fishermen during the macky season
Third, Introduce a licence, dont think that will work though
forth, Small hut at pier gate selling day tickets, must have a turnstile
though, that way, if ya got fishing gear ya gotta pay, if just
out for a stroll its FREE
fifth, If ya see these louts, kick the fkrs into the sea
Cant really think of anymore viable ideas, number 4 appeals to me though

yeah thats the problem im afraid paul maybe a meeting of all anglers in your local towns to try and solve the problem might work im sure the chavs and idiots wont turn up for a meeting lol oh im lost but i understand it needs to be sorted i give up fishing the piers in the summer months because the sights i saw was appalling regards batt22

It is a sorry state of affairs, but having a sea fishing licence (no matter who polices it) will have zero effect.
I have fished fresh waters for many years, and there are still places that are checked on a regular basis that are full of rubbish (empty cans, old line, food and rig wrappers, feaces and old unwanted tents and camping gear) and people who use the wrong equipment.
Having a sea fishing licence will not stop the people who don't know better or the people who couldn't care less.
We, as the human species (regardless of colour creed or religion) are stupid and selfish, and sometimes laws and etiquette need to be passed down. we as a group (anglers) need to try and educate instead of complain.
/end rant.
I apologise if I have upset anyone.

Have to agree with alot of you with people drinking and killing fish for no reason but I still think fishing comps are just as bad there is loads of comps up and down the country every week think about how many people kill the fish just for a prize or a mention in the paper every single week this happens think about how many fish a year alot of which are just say size get killed for this purpose then just get thrown in a bin or disguarded just for the sake of a prize or a mention I have seen it with my own eyes it makes me sickCod machine

saw some idiot chavs slapping each other with mackerel at the end of pier today and some clueles see you n tea had to wet his line between me and another angler 3 yds away i agree with either a weekly fee or day pass during peak mackerel times . it shoudl be as follows one person with one rod one set fee . two rods set fee plus additional rod charge. more than two rods you will pay a full charge for every rod after your second... if not you gonna get one chav paying carrying all the gear then the rest of his brethren will walk and fish just the same ....alcohol exclusion zone . compulsary.....Punch and pull then let rip
