Do you think it matters stewart on such a powerfull rod which has a thickish tip compared to say a really fine tip.on really slim lightweight rods like a profile or syncrho I can agree, but on m427's n zeteques etc surely not....Just wondered what you thought m8,not wanting to debate it or owt lol, cheers hh

Most top end reels are converted boat reels the trq the diawa hyperspeed to name a few, the akios will be louder as you have 30lb line on it, spool wont be balanced, personally don't see the point in lever drags from the shore especially as paul thinks they will suit rough ground/cliffs. 99%of cliff or rough ground anglers just put the drags on full.

That said at the end of the day we are talking about a fishing rod not a field rod and it is down to the individual how they want their rod to be built. My own thoughts would be if I'm spending a small fortune on a cutting edge design, lightweight carbon blank then I'd want as minimal a build as possible in order to keep the action as close to what the rod designer intended as possible. I'm sure others might disagree, but in my experience rods, rod actions and rod builds are all about feel and each individual has their own preference - light and minimal happens to be mine.
For big weights, heavy line and a Brighton cast the difference might be minimal, but strap on a 150g, .35mm line and pendulum cast and the difference in action will be noticible.
One final point, I'm not knocking Paul, his vids are generally very good, interesting and informative. But as you might have guessed I do think his rod builds are a bit OTTCLIP IT AND WHACK IT

Cheers for the reply stewart, just wanted to know your thoughts bud
I'm a fisherman myself not a casteralthough I have mates that are big into it.
I thought the old butchers tape was for experimenting with ring spacing, different rings or if the favoured minima's(very light weight)get bent or damaged it's just a case of get the tape out n tape a new one on
Sorry to hi jack the post, all the best hh
