fished roker pier today, and what can i say!

macky,macky,macky.

fished from 1pm to 5pm,

I am learning the wife fishing and today she done really well,pulling them in 3 at a time on 8lb line and using a 6 foot telescopic rod.

Never seen that many macky for years,lads on the end were coming off with black bags full of macky.

we ended up with 40 but were fishing about 100 yards before the end, we also had coalies and sandeels.

But by 5pm alot of anglers had left, and the rubbish was all over the place, I can not understand why people can not take the rubbish home with them,

Can't understand what people are going to do with black bags full of mackerel either - unless they're off to see a certain Mr. charlton pronto!!! Wouldn't like to say what condition they'll be in tho' -

Any that I might catch will go straight into a coolbag/box (holds about 16-20 depending on size) then I'm done. Old Japanese saying goes something like "mackerel are the only fish that start to go off before they're dead!"

Its great to catch them, a brill fight on light tackle, thats on light tackle 5or6 feathers isnt my idea of good sporting gear,If your after a few for bait/ table thats Ok but pulling in that many? I think !!- 2 ways, great day BUT what about the stocks, the trawlers pull in so many, thers going to be nowt left in a few years, just like the herring, unless you are 35/40 years old, you wont know what I"m talking about,- millions of them,they we will never run out of herring. aye !!! none of them left now , just the odd few,I"v been fishing for 35 odd years & I think if I caught a Herring now I would"nt know what it was,would be. a shame if we did it to the maccys,or any over fished """ easy catch""".........please dont get me wrong,great to eat,magic bait, but take it easy,I dont want to explaine what a mackeral is to my grandkids,&can only show them photos/ videos on U Tube in10/15 years time. for the future of alans belly the mackerel will go on and on and on sure i typed on nevermind is there any macky getting caught on roker pier lately ,blyth ,shields never heard much info , keep the reports coming in , the corner shops are stocking up in beers a we speak coast wise

I know Mr C loves mackeral, so do I..but we still have to &the trawlermen lookafter them. if your passion for catching fish on a large scale is that big buy a trawler with nets. and cut out the fun, and choice of returning the small ones,just kill the efffing lot, & be done with it,soz mate

Hurray the macky are in! Lets slaughter them by the bin liner full!! Pathetic but unfortunately very true. I reckon we should chuck the numpties in the sea and use strings of lager cans and catch them 6 at a time. Then we could recast them out whilst still alive, or leave them to flap about in the sun. Then fill a black sack and take them home to show our mates and family how clever we are

Just been down myself and came back with around 30 for my freezer from Roker. Obviously I totally agree with people taking bag loads home as they will be rotten by the time you get back. Mine were all caught and filleted straight away and ready for freezer with all remains thrown straight back in water (need as many as I can get as many of you know I teach kids so use loads). The place is stinking and rotten with crap all over. People were getting full houses and just ripping them off the hooks and throwing them back as they had so many (why use daylights then?) I did get snagged up but stuggled to pull it out as couldn't even hardly get any grip with my shoes as the roundhead was such a mess. I even heard one lad laughing with his mate saying have you seen how many heads and guts are up on the top off all the mackerel I caught! Well my annual rant over as it's a massive bugbear of mine and I could go on forever. As long as the lads from here do there bit I suppose it's about as much as we can do

Same every year, i love my pier fishing in the summer for pollack and mackerel and coalie but the 1-2 trip a year fools do spoil it. Roker has always been a far worse pier than Shields for the idiots and mess but not by much.

well said sean i had 3 sessions this week and took only 25 home and must of threw a lotmore than that back i got what i need for the winter and the table all ina couple times out any more i catch now will be catch and release only until i run short again only take what you need thats the way i look at things

Was at Roker yesterday from 4-7.30pm loads of idiots drinking cans, rubbish everywhere, this weather is just what we need not only to clean the pier but to keep the idiots indoors, wont last long though forecast for Sunday is warm and no wind, going to try and take a few photo's of the pier before and after to post.

sheilds pier today i had a walk along just for a stroll no fishing sea was rough still huge amount of mackerel coming in so it aint put them off that sea swell
