depends where you fish, what the tide is like, I tend to use flat ones, shaped like a flattened pear, made mould myself, the tide tends to keep them stuck to the bottom. If you are bouncing around use spiders.

grippers work for me as the tide pulls they still move though but when the tide isnt strong try pulling ya bottom lead a foot or 2 to disturb the sand or mud it will attract any fish close by and become curious

I often use the flattened ones described above (ready-made), some people use plain bombs hammered flat. I'm also a fan of the watch leads, particularly when using heavier weights (4 or 5oz) at longer range or in a stronger tide. These give you good grip, but still allow you to move the lead occasionally, unlike grip-wires where you'll trip the wires & start drifting in the tide.

Plain leads are good when you can get away with them; I particularly like using the half-ounce ones with 10lb braid - by fishing very light you don't get hit by the tide as much, less drag on the thin braid.

had a brilliant time mate, carp to 14lb, had a great day at the gun dog trials, entered my sons dog to see how he would do. Three events 10points per event, he got a two nines and an eight, considering he is a family pet and up against gun dogs who do it week and week about he did great. Even the other competitors said he did really well for a family pet. Got some good photos as well Barn Owl, tree creeper, coal tits etc, all in all a great weekend, felt like a fortnight. Back to normal yesterday, grand kids, went fishing with them this afternoon up Copthorne, managed one flounder each.

I can tell you, the best two shaped weights are the ones you get with kids hand lines, round with a centre hole and pips of lead around for extra grip. The other is home made using a tea spoon for the mould with a loop of wire with lead poured in. Once they have flipped onto the flat side down, with the domed side up, they stay put.
