  • Whitley Bay area

    Hi,
I've just moved up North from Sunderland, and i need advice for the area please. My missus wants to take up sea fishing so i want to teach her gradually....starting with flatties for this time of year. Hopefully by the winter she'll be able to cast a reasonable distance with a multiplier, or if i need to i'll get a fixed spool, and we can go for cod. All advice would be greatly appreciated..........many thanks in advance,
    Mick

Middens Beach on the Tyne would be a nice easy spot to ease your missus into fishing...or if you fancy a proper beach the Harbour Mouth at Seaton Sluice as well over high tide would be canny...
          Ooh a new vid!

I started fishing at High Shore, which is right next to the marina lock at Royal Quays. You rarely blank there and with the bonus that she won't have to worry about casting far enough to get into water. Do a search on here and you will see the catch reports and the varied catches that you can get from there - flatties, coalies, codling.

I never feel confident fishing beaches as I don't feel that I can cast far enough to be able to reach the fish but last time I fished Whitley Beach I pulled in 3 decent codling, one around 2lb one that was 3 and a half and a 5lber so either my casting is getting better or the fish are coming closer!!!

I was at Whitley yesterday evening having a constitutional along the prom and with the tide being out and the water still and clear I was amazed at how close some of the features and holes are on some marks...

It always pays to do your homework first. I have been down a couple of times when its been big tides to check out where I should be aiming for. It looks very different in the dark so make sure you take note of landmarks behind you to help you find the right spot when you fish at night. I take pics with my mobile and then turn round and take one of whats behind me.
