  • Shakespeare 'Targa' spinngin reel - long shot....

I know it probably belongs in the wanted, but being a bit of an old reel (think I've had the spinning rod and reel combo at least 10yrs or more).... anyone got either a full handle (with side-screw) or a reel they've otherwise trashed that I can use for spares?

Long story, but I got the spinning rod and matching reel donkeys years back, served me very well. Chose to try some coalie bashing after the mention on here about Blyth pier. Well, I got something a decent size for sure - fully grown Herring Gull tangled in the line. 2 daylights and a spinner still in the water and being an animal lover I bit through the line and got a nice "peck" on the cheek as thanks, then had to pin the daft thing while I untangled it, another loving peck ensued, a long one at that.

Getting the stupid thing off though meant unscrewing the reel handle as it had looped the line all over the place. So my side screw went between the boards. Ohh well I thought, washer and a screw from Wilkinsons, no bother.... Then it flapped and knocked the rod over - yes, you can guess, rod landed on its side, line came free and so did the reel handle, yes, again between the boards.

So I now have a lovely Targa spinning rod, matching reel and no handle. Mailled Shakespeare but no reply so far since last Saturday.

Ohh, yeah and I got 4 casts, no fish and the gull was launched into the air and flew off unharmed. I did get my spinner back though - try tying a line to a pier rail with a psychotic killer gull in your hand, makes for an intersting experience.

best bet it to look at the cheap ones in netto or somthing and take your targa. imform the store than try the handle....... I've had a couple of reels with organ donor handles lol

Might have to go down that route - mailled Shakespeare and they've sent me a link to some place that does parts, but it looks like an outside stockist, so I'm waiting on a reply from this place to see if they have the bits.

well I hope you can get the replacement because the only downside to the donor handle is the cheaper reels handles feel like they'll bend over with any weight and the shafts at all a slightly differnet length (still usable though). and good show on risking your reel and hand safety saving the bird
