Marks to catch the most in your area would be Shields and Roker pier then followed by Blyth pier, They produce good amounts year in year out but do get busy and messy.

For a more laid back area then Marsden out crop rocks (be carefull thou) and and beach with a good drop off, you wont get as many but god fun in the surf and from the rocks good chance of a pollack on the spinner.

You are looking at mid June before they show on the piers in any numbers and if the NE winds keep comming add a week or two onto that.

Shields pier would be your best bet, as the mackerel and coalies tend to come very close in at times as they chase the shoals of sprat and sandeel.

the past year or two hasnt been that gud for mackerel, but am i hav hope for this year (even though a dont fish for them very much, just 4 bait)

no, just use mackerel feathers (daylites) or try spinning for them. thats what i do and they give u a hell of a scrap on light gear. will use daylite if struggling though

All day!!! but the catch rate tends to be better when sunnier with a light westerly wind

just as the sun is rising on a still morning i have found is the best, plus the piers are quite at that time in the morning.

Avoid Blyth pier during the school 6 week holidays as it is packed. Blyth produced very little last year but try fishing at daybreak.
keep kids off the streets, give them a rod.
