  • Fishing in Turkey

well off to turkey on thursday 13th may for 2 weeks of fishing.

hopefully will get on a boat, but most of the time will be fishing off the jettys.

fished turkey before and it is great fun, but trying to hook these fish is not easy, using size 8 hooks.

normally catch mullet and what looks like bream but not sure the name of these fish.

biggest fish i had last year was 38lb tope and 18lb sting ray but these were from the boat

mission on boat this year is barraccua, tuna

will post pic when i return.

Hope you have a great time Danny, I wish I was going with you. Which part of Turkey are you going to mate?

Hi d-a the fishing in Marmaris and Icmeler is not too good, some of the locals fish down near the marina, from a small bridge, and near where the trip boats moor up near the town centre, from the small jetty there using bread for bait. The small half day boat trips are nothing special either, I think there were three very small fish (nowhere near the size of a Mackerel) caught all afternoon on the one that Steve and I did. They use Chicken for bait which is left out in the sun while you are using it too, I made sure my hands were no where near my mouth until they were well scrubbed lol. I suppose it is ok for a fun morning or afternoon, if you are with friends or family but take some hand wash or gell of some sort with you to keep your hands clean as I would have thought Samonella was a good bet lol.

If you have a look inside the Marina in Marmaris you will see some decent shoals of Mullet swimming about in there though, unfortunately you are not allowed to fish for them in the marina, on my many visits I have'nt even seen any locals trying to catch them in there so it really must be a big no no. I have a Turkish friend that works in the marina and he said they were very strict on people fishing there.

There is a specialised fishing boat that will take you out but if you are by yourself they are asking a lot of money, I suppose it is the same as booking a charter boat over here for just yourself. If you can manage to get him to call you to make up numbers one day it would obviously be a lot cheaper though. This boat is at the old town end of Marmaris too, where the day trip boats park up on a night time. Just have a walk around one evening and they will be there looking for business.

        hi jim

i off to fethiye, normally fish marmaris.

last time on the boat it cost me £58.00 and the wife £28.00 to watch, this was only half a day, but i am on holiday so i am not bothered on the price

what i used on the boat last time was something like a sardine not sure what it was, but it was a fish bait.

the hotel i am stopping at has a private jetty, so i will be fishing off this most of the time, i will be using bread with soft cheese and sweetcorn, last time caught loads of fish using this bait but very small, but i am using very light gear so should be fun.

last time some of the locals were using chicken and catching what looked like bass,

jim the last time i was there i found what looked like a rag worm so i picked it up and one of the locals said NO! it can sting you, any idea what it could have been.

Hi Danny, I can't remember what they were going to charge me for going out by myself but i think it was about £85:00. A lot of the time I think it depends how good business is to how much they charge.

I can't think of a better way to pass the time on holiday on a hot day than sitting on the end of a jetty with a couple of cold ones and fishing while SWMBO soaks up the sun lol

The fish that we caught on the boat on Chicken, were all different but they all had canny sets of teeth on them, they must be canny when they get bigger though I've eaten the Bass and Bream over there and they are both tasty. A restaurant that we used a lot on the front, used to bake their own bread every day and the lad makiing it used to throw some of the dough into the sea every now and again to keep the fish about, he would always have his fishing rod in the water when it got dark, never saw him catch anything though

I have'nt a clue what the worm would be danny, most of the Turkish blokes I met over there only fished when they were back at their village after the holiday season had finished and didn't know much about the sea fishing. It just goes to show though, you have to be careful what you touch no matter what it is lol.
