Most deep rock marks will produce wrasse around here, mabey not as good as other areas but there deff here

baits a use are crab rag and lug, but to be honest a mainly float fish fotthem with rag and seems to do well

also used hooks from 2-2/0, 1/0 will be fine

and yes they will take soft lures, just rig them weedless and pull through the kelp

    goodluck

St Marrys and land side of the blocks on Shields chucks up a few, i had 14 in one day from Shields but none over 1lb.

Always worth a bash up and down the coast south of the shields beach.

south gare has produced a fair few this time of year for me nothing over half a pound and all i used was a spinning rod half ounce weight and a size 2 hook dropped stright down the side for about an hour it was a wrasse every few mins then coalie and a few verry small codling ive always found with wrasse fishing tho that the sea needs to be reosnably calm and clear and the day needs to be warmish

you may pick up the odd one around Whitburn, the shelf most likely, i had one of the top of north row ends a couple of summers back just having a daft chuck, think it was the last bank hol of the summer so that would make it august, just a wee one though
