  • Fishing Blyth Pier

I used to fish the pier many years ago, but im quite out of the loop now so I have started this thread to ask for help and advice on where to fish on the pier, what baits, rigs and what I can expect to catch at this time (flatties no doubt)

I will be fishing at high tide with the tide on the turn and will be leaving at low water.

Has there been much caught off there lately does anyone know? I never used to catch much years ago so I asume the answer is no.

I would agree with the very end and the bend on the pier as the most consistant marks. The best Plaice I saw taken from the pier was taken from about twenty yards before the bend fishing on the river side. two lads were just lobbing their bait into that side and one of them got a cracking Plaice. That said though, you could fish the same mark from twenty yards past the bend too lol.

These are the 2 places I used to fish on the pier as well so things havent changed too much over the years. I found just outside the gate (which is no longer there of course) was a decent spot for codling as well.

As for fishing into the river I found the ground was too rough. I think I will probably fish the end of the pier. Thats if I get on the end.

        Thanks for the advice.

If you keep your casts short when fishing the river from the bend you should'nt have any problems. The rough ground can easily be found with a bit more distance and can be a very good mark to fish for Codling the whole year round. The rough ground runs from the "Peeping Tom rocks" at the end of the small concrete jetty in a straight line to near the end of the pier, as long as you keep clear of those you should have no problems.
