Am thinking of trying a 16 ft rod and a fixed spool filled with super braid but am not to clued up on big floppys and coffee grinders, I was thinking of a greys triplex and a penn surf master but dont want to spend to much as it might turn out to be a bad idea , any one have any first hand experiance of this type of fishing ? any advice much appreciated

i have used a greys tripplex loaded with 30lb braid it made casting effortless using a 5 oz bomb just make sure you buy a cannon finger{or bionic} otherwise you might lose one of your fingers

i have been thinking about switching to a 16ft rod aswell after trying my mates out the sinker just seem to fly out with no effort what so ever plus you get the advantage of extra hight in your rod stand so you skip the breakers tappin your line

good point also the bite detection is second to none i have been down brid today fishing the anyfish comp and it got me thinking that it would have been a better practice what with the tide and none existing bites no rocks and it makes a nice change in the summer months

With the Triplex longer drop and slow down the cast. Learned to my cost in Ireland last year when I used one with a 525 mag. Blew it up big style so line had to be cut off. Took my time later and it was quite nice to use.

Got a 15ft Daiwa Emcast and fixed spool loaded with braid but only used it once in awful conditions so can't really comment. Will be trying it through the summer.

Cheers for the advice Peter and good luck with the braid this summer i think you will get a shock at just how far you can cast this setup in the right conditions.

use 80 to 100 braid as a shocker as the braid would murder a tappered shocker , normal shocker sometimes rattles the rings .

when you say murder do you mean at the shocker knot kenny?

Aye practice casts with plain lead and no rig went canny. Used tapered leader with 220 yds of 20lb braid. Could see the backing line after the cast under the last of the braid, will have to see how it goes.

Used braid for flatties close in last year and great for showing up the bites.

the braid as the knot tightened would cut through the shocker m8, would not like to try and cast with a tappered shocker. sorry if i did not make it clear the first time m8 , happy fishing.

Tip I seen from a carp angler was to wet the braid on the reel and wet all the rings before casting.

Had no problems so far with braid to nylon. Use grinner to grinner and twice as many turns in the braid as the nylon. Worked OK.

I feel like a right tit. Bought a £275 Century Tip Tornado for my mag and its a canny caster. But i now fancy a sixteen footer with fixed spool with braid.
I have my old Abu Suveron and with the butt extension this goes up to 15 foot so might try this rod seeing as thought its in the shed doing nowt.
